JCCCM Scholarship Program 2026

Congratulations to this year’s recipients, Allison Wolanyk and Ihaya Wong, who have each been awarded $500 to further their post-secondary studies.

Allison is a first year student in the Film production program at Concordia University, whose goal is to practice visual journalism and documentary filmmaking, in order to contribute to conversations about identity and community.  She has been involved with the Arashi Daiko students’ group, as well as being a member of Shima no taiko.  Over the years she has also participated in Mochi-tsuki and Matsuri events.

Ihaya is studying Electrical Engineering at College Montmorency, and is also working to support himself.  He has been involved with the Hoshuko School, and has volunteered at Matsuri and Otakuthon, all of which have allowed him to strengthen his connections to the Nikkei community.

Thank you to everyone who submitted an application; we clearly received some strong applications this year, and feel that we were successful in selecting the two that showed the applicant’s dedication to local Japanese community activities, and an interest in furthering their implication.

The purpose of this program, is to support Nikkei youth (under 30 years of age), in their pursuit of higher education, keeping in mind the importance of community involvement. We will provide up to 2 scholarships ($500 each) to members of the local Nikkei community, in order to assist with their post-secondary education expenses.
